President Sue Boris and the board of directors of the Lake Nottely Improvement Association have set an aggressive slate of events for 2010.
In addition to the four Nottely Dam road clean-ups, two lake clean-ups, spring Education Meeting and Summer Island picnic, there will be two fundraisers to benefit the local community. LNIA's 2010 fundraising focus is aimed at the Union County Sheriff Department's lake patrol/dive boat.
LNIA members have adopted one mile of Nottely Dam Road as a part of the Georgia State Adopt-a-Road Program. Volunteers picked up 17 bags of litter on March 13th and will meet again on June 6th, September 11th and November 6th. This project, introduced to the club by Glen Boland, is in its 10th year.
Members will meet at Lakeside Village on Saturday, May 1st, to launch a flotilla of pontoon boats and will spend the day clearing the shoreline of debris and litter. Lakeside Village residents graciously provide a hearty breakfast prior to the clean-up and LNIA provides lunch following clean-up. This exercise will be repeated in the fall and LNIA encourages and welcomes the publics' participation.
President Boris has announced a line-up of impressive speakers for the May 13th Spring Education Meeting which will be held at UCBI's Brackett Room at 7:00 pm. This well attended event provides a tremendous amount of information to interested lake users.
LNIA will participate in Brother‘s Restaurant‘s ‘Community Night” on Thursday, April 15th. Brother's Restaurant at Willow Ranch on Highway 76, Young Harris will generously donate a portion of the night's proceeds to LNIA for their Patrol Boat Fund. The restaurant has successfully used this event to support local charitable organizations. Patrons enjoy a delicious meal while benefiting a worthy cause.
