LNIA
Accomplishments
The
past few years have
been a very busy and productive
years for LNIA. We are
working not only for Lake
Nottely but the community
at large.

-
911 Emergency Dock Signs. 75 LNIA Members purchased the signs.
-
Purchased and installed a second bench at Poteete Creek Park
-
Sponsored our annual ad in the Union County Football Program($50.00)
-

-

-
Encouraged membership to attend and support the Hiawassee River Water Coalition's Annual meeting
-

Accomplishments
for previous years include the following:
The
2009 Spring Tour of Homes -
Raised $3500 for local
charities. 125
people toured the homes.
TVA
awarded LNIA a $1000.00 grant -
To be used for lake clean-ups.
Began
correspondence with TVA Board -
To monitor the “Cliffs” area.
Corporate
Sponsorships -
The board implemented
this new type of membership
and it has been received
with great success.
Website
Development -
Thanks to the support
and time given by Lyndon
Sidelinger, we developed
a website. The
site is loaded with a
wealth of information
about Lake Nottely, TVA,
and local events. In 2009
a new website was designed
by Janice
Boling. It still
contains all the information
plus a lot of new updates
and photos.
Lake
Clean-up - LNIA
continued with its tradition
of the annual Fall and
Spring Lake Shoreline
Clean-ups. Both events
had large membership turnouts
but the clean up in the
snow was quite amazing.
Over 30 members showed
up in the frigid conditions
and braved the elements
to clean Lake Nottely.
LNIA removed hundreds
of pounds of trash and
debris
from the lake environment.
Road-side
Clean-up - LNIA
continued to sponsor two
miles of Nottely Dam Road.
LNIA cleaned the roadside
four times during the
year.
Educational
Meetings -
Due to the large attendance
and great program we
moved the meeting to
the Brackett Room at United
Community Bank. Last October
we had over 60 attend
and May's meeting topped
75. Meetings are open
to the public.
Volunteer
Hours - Over
168 hours supporting local
projects
Blairsville
Scottish Festival and
Highland Games - 14
members manned the souvenir
tent for the two day event
Financial
Support - LNIA
contributed $573.08 to
the DNR for patrol boat
navigation equipment,
$377 to the DNR for the
purchase of 18 fish attractors
(our members also helped
install a total of 120
attractors), $500 to Young
Harris College for the
support of the fight against
Woody Adelgid, and $643.07
to Union County for the
purchase of a park bench
engraved with "Lake Nottely
Improvement Association" (four
members installed the
bench at Poteete's Creek
public beach area)
LNIA
is influential in obtaining
significantly higher
lake levels for Lake Nottely during
the winter months, earlier
spring filling, and a
later fall draw down.
This is accomplished by
working with our elected
officials (congressmen
and senators) and members
of the congressional oversight
committee to require the
TVA to conduct a formal
review of their water
management policies and
operations schedule.
LNIA
is influential in
keeping a dedicated GA
DNR officer and patrol
boat assigned to Lake
Nottely. LNIA
collaborates with the
TVA Aden USFS on the management
of public lands surrounding Lake
Nottely.
