As part of its mission
to maintain and enhance
Lake Nottely for the benefit
of all lake users, the
Lake Nottely Improvement
Association held its annual
fall lake shoreline cleanup
on Saturday, October 3
rd. Twenty-five members
and a few guests braved
the dense fog as they
scoured the shoreline
for trash. LNIA sponsors
six roadside and lakeshore
cleanups per year.
“Perhaps we are
beginning to make an impact.
We noticed a slight reduction
in trash this year, and,
for that we are very appreciative.
Water cleanups are unpleasant
at best and can be extremely
hazardous,” said
A.G. Sherman, a veteran
of many years of cleanups.
The majority of items
pulled from the lake are
plastics, bottles in particular.
Blocks of disintegrating
foam from docks are extremely
hard to remove as they
become waterlogged. The
islands suffer damage
from inconsiderate campers,
but are improving.
Thanks to Bob Garrison
and his grandson, Lance,
and to Jan and Glen Boland
for the use of their pontoon
boats. The donuts, coffee
and light lunch provided
by LNIA was also appreciated.
The TVA assisted with
grant monies used for
gloves, trash bags and
trash grabbers.
In addition, thanks
to the LNIA members who
participated in the October
lake cleanup. Diane and
