A very invasive aquatic weed known as Parrot Feather has invaded neighboring Lake Chatuge. This week has been described as kudzu in the water. The TVA is looking into treating it there, but by policy they will only treat areas that adjoin public land and boat ramps, and most of the infestation on Chatuge is around private property. Mountain Tru is fervently working on collecting donations to fund the removal of this plant from Chatuge before it expands any further. They are projecting that if they do the work this spring it will cost $235,000 to $400,000. If it isn’t done now that number will grow exponentially.
We encourage you to contribute to Save Lake Chatuge to help stop this weed before it finds its way into Lake Nottely.
Parrot Feather spreads easily and can be transplanted by attaching to boats in one lake, and then coming loose and rooting in another lake, so it is vitally important for to thoroughly wash any boat that has been in any other body of water (especially Lake Chatuge) before launching it in Lake Nottely.
